New Zealand Wine, Bilancia, Puriri Hills, Central Otago pinot noir, Hawkes Bay Syrah
Region: Matakana, New Zealand
Takatu Vineyard is situated on a warm north facing hillside above Matakana village. Each vine is hand tended and the harvest hand picked thus defining the expression on each bottle fruit of the vine work of human hands.
Grapes: Merlot 72%, Cabernet Franc 22% & Malbec 6%
Wine Notes: Naturally fermented, using wild yeasts of the vineyard. This deep garnet coloured wine gives ripe, concentrated, dark fruit aromas of morello cherries, black plums, black berries and rich, tarry, dark chocolate. The densely packed palate has multi layered fruit flavours and robust but velvet smooth tannins. This full bodied, highly structured wine goes well with food, the ideal partner to meaningful celebrations. It will continue to evolve for 10 years from harvest.
Review: “Your 2005 red is excellent . . . impressively ripe and concentrated . . . it's certainly one of the finest Matakana reds I've tasted”. . Michael Cooper M.W. 5/5/06
